Peeka Trenkle brings thirty years of immersion in natural healing modalities and philosophies to her teaching and consulting. Beginning her studies in natural healing in the late 1970’s, she learned bodywork techniques including shiatsu, polarity, cranio-sacral therapy, and energy work. She ran a busy practice as an energy healer for ten years during which time she also studied nutrition, flower essence therapy, herbal medicine, meditation and amateur homeopathy.
When she became a mother in 1988 her work shifted gears. It was through rearing her three children—now young adults—that she learned the most valuable lessons of healing and natural health principles. Her work then turned more towards teaching and eventually she began teaching Green Medicine: a long-term training in Western herbalism at the New York Open Center in 1996. This program has run nearly continuously twice a year for the last 15 years.
Always applying personal experience to her work, Peeka became a childbirth educator and doula soon after the birth of her second child. She taught childbirth education classes and attended births for over 10 years and holds a deep reverence for the process of birth and a commitment to helping to reclaim birth as a family experience and not a medical event. In 1999, 2001 and 2003, Peeka co-produced the ground-breaking conference The Art of Birthing, a conference which explored the medical, cross-cultural, spiritual and psychological aspects surrounding birth in our culture.
Over the last few decades, Peeka has worked with thousands of students and clients worldwide. She has a unique perspective on healing, holism and the environment and is committed to helping others learn how to take an active role in restoring, cultivating and maintaining their own health. This model of healing involves encouraging a connection with the natural world and an understanding of the importance of local foods, herbs and waters. Recently Peeka has developed an herbal product line for the new, up and coming company, Roots Remedies, based on a visionary model of bioregionalism and sustainability.
Peeka maintains a private practice as a homeopathic consultant, herbalist and intuitive healer with offices in New York City and Denville, New Jersey. She is a professional member of the American Herbalists Guild, and a graduate of the School of Homeopathy, New York and the Dynamis School for Advanced Homeopathic Studies. She has been on the faculty at the New York Open Center since 1996. Recently featured on Oprah Winfrey’s Oprah and Friends with Dr. Mehmet Oz, Peeka has been a featured speaker at numerous natural health conferences.
